Mr. Celubrious:

“One of the best ways to persuade others
is with your ears…by listening to them.”
--Dean Rusk

It is immeasurable how many broken hearts, how much wasted
time; injury and loneliness have resulted from not listening. Are you a poor
listener? Well don't feel badly if you are. Most of us have that problem and
even thought you don't think about it your listening habits have caused more
unhappiness and pain than you will ever know. If you are a selective listener
your hear about half of what is said, filter out things you think are
unimportant and you usually end up hearing just what you want to hear. Don’t be
distressed there is hope, because listening is a learned art.  The first listening lesson is showing genuine
concern for the feelings of your loved ones, family and co-workers.  Also remember your ears will never get you in
trouble. So when people talk, listen completely and don’t be like the people
who instead of listening to what is being said to them, are listening to what
they are going to say to themselves. A final lesson would be that when you are
a
good listener you are not
only popular everywhere, but after a while you get to know something.
These steps will go a long way toward developing your listening habits.
They are not all inclusive so after learning to listen do not
spoil a person's good opinion of you by not keeping
your tongue under control.
